It’s always funny (or sometimes upsetting, I suppose) when a
stereotype proves true in an individual instance. While sitting on the stone
remains of what was once a communal, Roman latrine (they really did not mind
taking care of business right next to each other; they even used the time to
“catch up”), I was approached by a British woman and her young daughter. She
asked in a thick accent if we were from the states and after I responded, “Yes,
and I take it you aren’t!” she looked to her daughter and said, “Look! At her
beautiful, American teeth!”
